Caretaker accused of stealing from elderly man
GREENWELL SPRINGS - East Baton Rouge sheriff's deputies say a woman hired to care for an elderly man has been arrested after it was learned that the woman had allegedly charged close to $10,900 on his credit card.
The Advocate reports Jackie Carlene Gann was hired in May 2014 by the man's son. Authorities say the son had cancelled his father's financial accounts. After the father's death at age 80 in March, the son received a credit card bill for $10,853.
After contacting the financial institution, deputies say the account had been reactivated with Gann listed as an authorized user.
Gann was booked Wednesday with access device fraud and theft from an elderly or disabled person.
Officials couldn't provide the name of a defense attorney to comment on the charges
