BATON ROUGE- A fiery car crash killed five people, three of them children, on I-10 late Sunday night. State Police believe a truck traveling westbound on the interstate clipped an SUV causing it to cross the median into oncoming traffic, striking a car carrying the five people.

Killed in the crash were Effie Fontenot, 29; Kim Stag, 29; Keagan Fontenot, 11; Hunter Johnson, 7; and Austin Fontenot, 3, all from Prairieville.

State Police say the driver of the truck, David Leger, 29, sustained only minor injuries, but his passenger is in critical condition.

"This is by far one of the worst crashes that I've been on the scene for and children that's always gonna pull on you," said Trooper Russell Graham.

Charges have not been filed against the driver, but an investigation is still underway.
