Efforts are under way to cap a spewing wellhead in Barataria Bay. It's been leaking since yesterday.
The Coast Guard says a towboat was pushing a barge on Mud Lake--just north of Barataria Bay-- when it hit the abandoned wellhead, around 1 a.m.
The towboat captain says the well was not lit as required.
About 6,000 feet of containment boom is already in place around the site. Authorities say the mile-long slick from the latest leak is small compared with the Gulf spill.
