Cannon fire in oil exploration upsets environmentalists
ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, FLORIDA- Environmentalists are concerned about the Obama Administration opening the Eastern Seaboard to offshore oil exploration.
It's in part because oil companies were given final permission to use sonic cannons that can find energy deposits deep under the ocean floor.
Environmentalists say the cannons endanger marine life.
But the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says the decision is a balanced approach that will protect the environment while exploring for offshore resources.
