BATON ROUGE- One of two candidates on a finalist list for East Baton Rouge Parish Schools superintendent spent Tuesday getting to know the district she's vying to lead.

Maria Pitre-Martin, current Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, met with community, education and business leaders, before visiting two schools and talking with students.

Pitre-Martin, who made it onto the top six list for the job in January, stayed in the hunt this second time, after the lone finalist pulled out of the race all together. Several board members are not on-board with Pitre-Martin making the short list again, but she says challenges like that won't keep her from trying to come home to Louisiana.

"Having the opportunity to share some of the experiences and skills that I've gained through the years, in other states, and other school districts, I just feel very honored to have the opportunity to share that with the school district here in East Baton Rouge Parish," said Pitre-Martin.

Bernard Taylor will take his turn on the town Wednesday. The board is aiming to choose a new superintendent Thursday.
