BATON ROUGE- Wendy Johnson was eager to sign up for health insurance on the first day it was available. She's been without insurance for 20 years because she's self-employed.

"I've gone for 20 years without health insurance and that makes you very nervous and you never know what could possibly happen, so being able to be insured would be a relief, a great relief," said Johnson.

She spent a few hours with a health care navigator today to learn exactly what she's getting into, but the website that hosts the health care exchange, proved difficult and glitchy. Experts think that's because the website was overwhelmed.

"That tells me there are a lot of people out there who are interested in getting insurance the same way I am," said Johnson.

Johnson doesn't make enough money to afford health care on her own, but she also makes too much to qualify for Medicaid, so the new Affordable Care Act will get her covered at a price that won't be too heavy on the budget.

"I can't be assured that I will make it through the rest of my life without having some problems, having health insurance will allow me to age now," said Johnson.

Johnson will attempt to sign up again, when the website isn't experiencing as much traffic, but she's not worried, now that insurance is available to her.
