A business that brought hundreds of Filipino teachers to Louisiana to teach in public schools has been ordered to pay $1.8 million in placement fees.
Officials say the California-based Universal Placement Inc. operated without the proper Louisiana license.
The Louisiana Federation of Teachers says about 360 teachers are affected, and they would average on getting about $5,000 per person.
The company placed teachers in Avoyelles, Caddo, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson and Orleans parishes.
