Business group warns of immigration inspections
The National Federation of Independent Business says the federal government will inspect hiring records of 180 employers in five states including Louisiana.
Homeland Security's division of immigration customs enforcement will check for compliance with immigration laws and regulations.
Technical violations carry fines of up to $1,100 each.
Knowingly hiring an undocumented worker - and filling out forms to hide the employment - carry fines of up to $3,200 for each violation.
