Burnside office manager accused of payroll fraud
GONZALES - A Burnside furniture store office manager turned herself in to police on Tuesday morning based on accusations that she changed payroll records to her benefit to the tune of more than $25,000.
Shannon Denyse Desira, 40, of St. Amant was tasked with handling payroll and accounts payable for a furniture store in Burnside, but an internal audit of the years of 2008 and 2014 revealed she stole a total amount of $200,461.00, according to investigators.
According to payroll records, Desira changed payroll records and eliminated payroll deductions from her own payroll checks. Auditors said they also found she had issued herself additional payroll checks to which she was not entitled.
Desira complied with the request of Gonzales police to surrender on the morning of Oct. 14. She admitted to the fraudulent conduct, but disputed the total dollar figure provided by accountants from the furniture store.
She was booked into Ascension Parish Jail on one count of felony theft in excess of $25,000.
