Burn advisory, ban issued
GONZALES - The State Fire Marshal's Office issued a statewide burn advisory Tuesday due to dry conditions and high winds, prompting some parishes to issue their own bans.
Livingston Parish officials issued a parish-wide burn ban Tuesday afternoon, including for burning natural vegetation.
"Our state has experienced an excessive number of out of control brush fires directly related to the intentional burning of trash and debris," said State Fire Marshal Butch Browning.
Browning said a number of local fire officials also said small debris fires which got out of hand were responsible for destroying or damaging several structures, including some which had valuable equipment or vehicles inside.
Anyone with information about suspected arson in their area should call the Fire Marshal's toll-free Arson Hotline at 1-866-946-1097, or you can submit an anonymous tip on the State Fire Marshal's website.
