SPRINGFIELD - A property owner shot a teen trying to break into a Livingston Parish home this morning, according to the sheriff's office.
LPSO spokesperson Perry Rushing said they were called out to a shooting on Church of God Road near Springfield around 9 a.m.
He said 18-year-old Aaron Church tried to break into a vacant home, which set off an alarm and alerted the homeowner who lived nearby. The homeowner, a former NOPD officer, arrived and shot the person in the shoulder.
Church was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover. The homeowner was questioned and released by the sheriff's office.
Rachel Frost spoke to the homeowner about the break-in, and she'll have that interview tonight on News 2 at 5 p.m.
