Budget rebalancing on slower track
Legislative plans to fast-track the closure of a $319 million deficit in this year's budget are being
House Speaker Jim Tucker says that's because legislation near final passage in Congress impacts both this year's and next year's budget plans.
The congressional bill would extend part of the federal stimulus money, giving Louisiana more Medicaid money.
So Tucker says plans to wrap up the deficit reduction for the current budget year within two weeks were scrapped.
The $29 billion budget must be rebalanced before the fiscal year ends June 30.
