Budget cuts increase driver's license wait
BATON ROUGE - Wait times to get your driver's license are much higher due to state budget cuts.
The Legislative Fiscal Office says they have shot up after the Jindal administration cut staffing levels.
The analysis says personnel at the Office of Motor Vehicles has dropped by 23 percent and wait times went from as little as 8 minutes in 2009 to more than an hour in 2013.
State Police Col. Mike Edmonson oversees the motor vehicle offices. He says OMV shifts staff to offices with higher wait times and the agency is working with more outside contractors to handle driver's license renewals and reduce wait times.
