Budget battle possible as session ends
BATON ROUGE- The Louisiana Senate approved most of the budget changes backed in committee, setting up a possible budget showdown this weekend.
The Louisiana House of Representatives cut hundreds of millions of dollars of dollars from the budget. The money is not guaranteed from year to year. The Senate replaced the one-time money before sending House Bill 1 back to the House.
Even with one time money included, higher education and health care are projected to be facing more than $50 million dollars in cuts each. House members will have until the end of session Monday to consider the changes. That's when the session is required to end.
