PLAQUEMINE – State Police reports that a Brusly man was killed Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Iberville Parish.

According to Louisiana State Police, 56-year-old Ervin Sparrow stopped his pickup truck on the eastbound lane of LA 1148 to adjust equipment on the back of his truck. As he was walking back to the driver’s side of the truck, another car moved into a passing zone to pass Sparrow’s truck.

Police said Sparrow, “for unknown reasons,” attempted to run across the westbound lane as the other car was passing. The front left side of the vehicle struck Sparrow in the westbound lane.

Police said Sparrow sustained fatal injuries from the crash. The Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, 33-year-old Ashley Erwin was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken from Erwin and Sparrow for analysis.
