BATON ROUGE - Police issued a warning to Baton Rouge residents Tuesday after they announced they were investigating three home invasions and sexual assaults that had happened since Sunday morning.

Sgt. Mary Ann Godawa said in all three cases women were sexually assaulted by someone who broke into their homes. The first incident happened in the Tara/Goodwood area early Sunday morning, the second in the Glen Oaks area Sunday night around 8:30 p.m., and the third Monday morning around 2:30 a.m. in the Webb Park area.

She said it's unclear if all three were committed by the same person, since the attacker in all three cases was described as a male around six feet tall, dressed in dark clothing with some kind of face covering and gloves.

Detectives said two of the victims were in their 70's and home alone when they were attacked and sexually assaulted. They said a third victim, who was in her 30's, had her door kicked in and was covered with a blanket by the attacker before he tried to assault her. They said the third victim fought back and was able to escape, going to neighbor's house for help.

Godawa encouraged people to be dilligent in locking their doors and windows, report any suspicious activity by calling 389-2000 or 911 in the case of an emergency, and be aware of your surroundings at all times. She also urged anyone with information about these crimes to call the BRPD Sex Crimes Division at 389-3853.
