BRPD: Victim in crash misidentified
BATON ROUGE – The pedestrian believed to have been hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver last week is actually alive and well, according to police.
Sgt. Don Kelly with the Baton Rouge Police Department said that EMS workers originally identified the victim in the Nov. 2 crash as Terry Royce, who reportedly lived in the area.
Kelly said the victim appeared similar to photographs and physical descriptions of Royce, and that Royce’s sister didn’t voice any concerns after viewing the body at a local funeral home.
Then today, she contacted police and told them she had just received a call from her brother who was alive and well at a local hospital.
Investigators went back and checked the fingerprints of the victim, and Kelly said he was positively identified as a 50-year-old homeless man.
Police are now trying to locate and notify his family.
