BRPD renews national accreditation
BATON ROUGE - The Baton Rouge Police Department announced Monday that they successfully renewed their national accreditation, a status that puts them among the top law enforcement agencies in the nation.
The status was confirmed by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA. They took public comments into account, as well as extensive research to make sure the department's policies met national standards.
BRPD first received accreditation in 1996, and renewed it every three years since then. A department spokesperson said in 2010 they were also honored as a flagship agency with CALEA.
