BATON ROUGE - The Baton Rouge Police Department welcomed a new group of recruits to basic training today.
Over the next five months, the strongest and smartest of 30 men and women will graduate as law enforcement professionals.
"They're pushing us in a really good direction that we need to be pushed," said recruit Natasha Strickland. "It's like we're putty and they're just going to mold us to what they need us to be."
Every recruit was hand-selected from hundreds of applicants by BRPD. They come from backgrounds of law enforcement, military and business.
"I've always wanted to help people," said recruit Mike Darila. "I feel that I want to help people in my own community."
At the end of basic training, each recruit will train with a veteran officer. Those who pass the test will be assigned to one of four precincts in Baton Rouge.
