BAKER - Police in Baton Rouge said an 18-year veteran of the force was arrested by Baker Police and accused of beating his teenage daughter.

Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said Sgt. Wroten Brumfield, 39, was booked into the parish prison on domestic abuse battery charges Wednesday night.

According to arrest documents, Baker Police were called after a nurse at his daughter's school found signs of abuse on her. Investigators said they interviewed the girl, who told them Brumfield had gotten into an argument with her over a cell phone before choking her, throwing her around, and hitting her with a board while trying to spank her.

Investigators said Brumfield confessed to grabbing his daughter by the neck and slapping her, and said he hit her arm while trying to spank her with a wooden board he was using as a paddle.

McKneely said Brumfield, who worked in the BRPD Burglary Division, has been placed on administrative leave pending the criminal and internal investigation.
