BATON ROUGE - Police in Baton Rouge opened enrollment for their next Equalizer Women's Self-Defense class Tuesday.
The class will be held in January at the BRPD Training Academy on Airline Highway.
The sessions are free and open to women older than 13. The course covers facts about violence against women, reducing the risk of becoming a victim, defensive striking, common grab defenses, head-lock defenses, bear hug defenses, striking and knife defense and group escapes.
Attendees should wear comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity.
The sessions are scheduled on the following dates, and run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. People must attend each session in order to be certified.
Session 1 - Jan. 6 or 7
Session 2 - Jan. 8
Session 3 - Jan. 13
Session 4 - Jan. 15
Class size is limited so participants should register early by calling (225) 389-3886.
