BATON ROUGE – Baton Rouge Police say a motorcycle officer suffered severe injuries Sunday after his motorcycle collided with a car on Government Street.

According to Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola, the accident happened around 4 p.m. in the 600 block of Government Street. A BRPD motorcycle officer was monitoring traffic near the River Center due to an event.

Coppola said the officer was driving westbound on Government Street with his lights and sirens on when a car made a left turn from a side street to the eastbound lane and hit the officer.

Police say the officer was transported to a local hospital with “moderate to severe” injuries. Police say the injuries are not life threatening. A passenger from the vehicle also complained of minor injuries.
