BRPD K9 Unit awarded USPCA Award

BATON ROUGE - One of Baton Rouge Police Department's K9 units recieved special recognition Wednesday. 

Cpl. Luke Cowart and his dog Rukus were presented the USPCA National Detector Case of the Year Award in recognition of his efforts finding drugs during a stop last October.

Baton Rouge Police said the duo found a suitcase on a passenger bus with 48 candles of methamphetamine mixed in wax and disguised as candles. 

Police arrested and booked Jose Antonio Rodriguez-Lara, 19, of Houston, Texas into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged him with Distribution/Manufacturing Schedule 2 Drugs.
