BATON ROUGE – Police say one man is dead and a second is in parish prison after a shooting on North 40th Street Wednesday night.

According to arrest documents, the shooting happened in the 1600 block of North 40th around 11 p.m. Wednesday. Baton Rouge Police homicide detectives responded from a second shooting just blocks away and found Tyrone Isaac inside the home with a gunshot wound. Isaac was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after detectives arrived.

A woman at the home said that Isaac had been in a physical fight with his father and uncle just before the shooting. The woman said one of the two men shot through the door as they were leaving the home.

While police were investigating, Isaac’s ‘uncle’ Oscar Square and father, identified as Rico Wilbert, returned to the scene and were detained.

Arrest records say Square admitted to being involved in a fight with Isaac but then left and got into his truck. Square told investigators that Wilbert then entered the truck and said that he had shot his son.

Square said Wilbert was holding a semi-automatic handgun when he got into the truck.

Rico G. Wilbert was charged with second-degree murder. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Thursday morning.
