BATON ROUGE – Baton Rouge Police detectives are investigating the murder of a 69-year-old woman following a burglary that occurred on Oaklon Drive last month.

Officers responded to the 4900 block of Oaklon Drive on Aug. 11 to the burglary of a home and found Earnestine Johnson lying on the floor unconscious. Johnson was attacked by a male suspect after confronting him inside the home. The suspect shoved Johnson causing her to fall and hit her face.

Johnson was transported to an area hospital and later died at a rehab facility on Sept. 8. Autopsy results determined that Johnson's death was caused by her injuries from the incident.

BRPD says that the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 389-4869.
