BATON ROUGE - The wife of a man shot and killed overnight in Baton Rouge told News 2 they were headed out of town before the shooting happened.

"I can't go anywhere, I had to call my momma today, to tell her I gotta put her on hold because of my husband," said Angela Vincent, the victim's wife.

Detectives said Charles Vincent, 59, was shot around 12:08 a.m. at a bus station on Florida Street. Vincent's wife told News 2 they were both homeless and trying to leave for Texas when he was killed.

"I know someone would actually run from the shots, but I tried to see who was shot because we had people coming in and out and I saw the guy fall and that's when we went to him, to see if he was still alive," said April Johnson, who was working nearby when she heard the shots. "I was asking him to keep breathing, keep breathing, and he just went limp... he just stopped breathing."

Police said Vincent was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869.
