BATON ROUGE - Police in Baton Rouge said a suspected burglar who escaped from police this morning, despite handcuffs and an injured foot, is back in custody.

Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said Tommy Depedro Wilson, 55, escaped from the BRPD Second Precinct on Highland Rd. around 10:30 a.m., and was re-arrested a short while ago near the Garden District.

Stubbs said officers originally arrested Wilson in suspicion of burglary around 8:20 a.m. today, and brought him to the precinct for processing. While there Wilson requested medical attention, then escaped after EMS arrived at the station.

Stubbs said witnesses spotted Wilson a few blocks north of the station shortly after the escape. Officers searched the area and found the boot Wilson had been wearing, before locating Wilson around 2:30 p.m. near S. 17th and Bynum Ave, more than a mile north of the precinct.

Police said an internal investigation is looming into how Wilson got away.
