BATON ROUGE - Police said DNA helped them connect a suspect to a home invasion and sexual assault reported last week, and that more charges against him could be coming.

Sgt. Mary Ann Godawa said officers charged Vorris Mouton, 35, of New Iberia with sexual battery and aggravated burglary in connection with an incident Jan. 17 in the Sherwood Forest subdivision.

Godawa said officers arrested Mouton Monday in connection with a Dec. 22 home invasion and burglary. They said Mouton broke into a home on Reymond Street and demanded the homeowner tell him where her safe was, threatening to kill her if she didn't. After a brief struggle, police said Mouton fled the home.

She said investigators at the State Police Crime Lab connected Mouton's DNA to a sample collected at the scene in Sherwood Forest.

Godawa said additional charges are pending further investigation.

BRPD issued a warning to residents last week after a series of home invasions and sexual assaults occurred in the same week. In those incidents the victims told police they were alone at home when a man dressed all in dark clothing got into their house and attacked them.

News 2 will have more on this breaking story tonight.
