BRPD: Deadly shooting picked up by ShotSpotter
Baton Rouge Police are investigating a deadly shooting that was picked up by one of the city’s ShotSpotters. It happened Monday night on Gus Young Avenue.
Police found 18-year-old Devin Tremaine Ford inside a car with multiple gunshot wounds. Ford was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Cpl. L’Jean Mckneely said a ShotSpotter device had alerted officers of shots being fired in that area, and they found Ford in his vehicle when they got to the scene.
"It can tell whether or not it's a backfire from a car, fire cracker versus a handgun or assault-type weapon, if a gun shot is actually being fired," said Mckneely, in reference to the ShotSpotter.
Ford's family members said they know who killed their loved one. Police said they're following leads, but the motive for the shooting is unknown.
