BRPD: Boy was playing with gun, shot stepsister
BATON ROUGE - Police arrested a 13-year-old boy after they said he was playing with a gun when it went off, critically injuring his 9-year-old stepsister.
Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. at at home on 4733 Banks Street in Baton Rouge.
Stubbs said the boy took the gun from his mother's residence and brought it with him when he went to stay at his father and stepmother's house. Around 3:30 a.m. while the stepmother was sleeping and father was away at work, Stubbs said the boy retrieved the gun and begn playing with it. It went off, and a bullet hit his stepsister in the head. She was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition.
The boy was taken to East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention for negligent injuring and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
