HOUMA - Sheriff's deputies charged two brothers in Terrebonne Parish with battery after a drunken brawl where they said one slashed the other with a machete.

Deputies arrested John Roy Dupre Sr., 54, as well as Robert Lynn Dupre, 53, after the fight this weekend.

Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois said deputies were called out to the fight in Houma early Sunday morning.  Investigators said both brothers had been drinking before the fight, and John cut his younger brother on the wrist with a machete.

A relative took Robert Dupre to a local hospital. He was treated for an exposed tendon on his right wrist.

Deputies booked John Roy Dupre Sr. on charges of aggravated second degree battery.  They gave his brother a misdemeanor summons for simple battery.
