DENHAM SPRINGS - Residents are worried about what they believe is a safety hazard in their neighborhood, Woodland Crossing.

A fence around Mo-Dad Utilities, LLC wastewater treatment facilities fell down in April and has not been repaired. Inside are large pools of water with pumping stations.

"They won't fix it," Billie Jo Alexander complained in an interview for WBRZ News 2 at 10:00 Thursday.  "They don't seem to think this is a safety concern."

The Mo-Dad facility is across from Alexander's house. She tells WBRZ this isn't the first time the fence has fallen. During Hurricane Isaac, the fence fell and took months to be repaired.

"It either smells, it's loud or the fence is down," she said. "So they're not maintaining like they should."

Neighbors worry children will get inside the unsecured area and someone could get hurt.

The wastewater treatment company has been cited with dozens of compliance issues by the Department of Environmental Quality dating back to 2006. To help offset the costs of bringing facilities in compliance, last year Mo-Dad asked the state to approve a rate increase and was successful.  Most recently, earlier this year, Mo-Dad sent a letter to the state with intent to sell

A phone call to Mo-Dad Utilities for comment about the broken fence was not returned Thursday.
