CLINTON, La. - The East Feliciana Parish Police Jury has accepted a proposal to rebuild a bridge the state ordered closed on Carruth Road in the Wilson area.
Parish Manager Glen Kent tells The Advocate Parker Composite will do the work at a cost of $38,850.
The Police Jury must supply materials, estimated to cost $10,000 to $16,000.
The company uses a plastic-like material to cover wood, rather than using creosote timbers or other treated wood, Kent said.
The technique has been used successfully in neighboring West Feliciana Parish, he said.
State officials also have ordered a bridge on John Thomas Road to be closed. The Police Jury authorized Kent to commission a hydrological study of the stream the bridge crosses to determine whether the structure could be replaced with culverts.
