Bridge inspections create 11-mile traffic jam on I-10
GROSSE TETE - Traffic officials said bridge inspections near Grosse Tete caused another massive traffic delay Tuesday along the I-10 corridor between Lafayette and Baton Rouge.
The Department of Transportation and Development said that just before 1 p.m. I-10 West traffic was backed up 11 miles from before LA 77 at Grosse Tete onto the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
DOTD said the routine bridge inspections this week forced them to close one lane of the bridge. The inspections will continue through Thursday on the westbound bridge, depending on the weather, and run Monday through Thursday next week on the eastbound side of the interstate.
Drivers were told to use US 190 as an alternate route through the area.
