BRFD: Parents die in fire, son tried to save them
BATON ROUGE - Firefighters said a son tried to save his mother and bed-ridden father from an apartment fire in Baton Rouge today, but was unable to.
BRFD said both of the son's parents died in the fire at 2712 Balis Drive. He survived, and was taken to the hospital according to firefighters.
A BRFD spokesperson said the three-unit complex was destroyed in the fire, but only one was occupied at the time.
Investigators said they were told by the surviving family member that they were all were asleep when the fire woke them up, and there was an explosion in the kitchen.
Firefighters are still working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
