BRFD investigating house fire
BATON ROUGE - Firefighters said they're still working to figure out how a house fire started in Old South Baton Rouge Monday morning.
A Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesperson said more than half the home on Buchanan Street was destroyed by the fire, which was reported just after 11 a.m.
Firefighters said when they arrived the fire had already gotten into the house's attic. They estimated 60 percent of the structure was destroyed, and the rest of the home was damaged by heat, water and smoke.
A BRFD spokesperson said one person lived at the home but wasn't there at the time of the fire. Investigators do not suspect foul play at this time.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the resident.
