Drew Brees says he understands why some might see it as sacrilegious to print T-shirts referring to him as "Breesus."
The Saints quarterback prefers to think of it as heartfelt affection from fans looking for a football fan's version of salvation after four decades of mostly losing seasons.
Around town, people are wearing Breesus T-shirts.
Brees says he's had a few of the shirts tossed inside the window of his car by fans welcoming the team back from road games outside Louis Armstrong International Airport.
Brees has been stellar ever since he joined the Saints as a free agent in 2006, leading an offense that has ranked first in the NFL in two of the last three season and ranks first again so far this
season.

SALVATION IS FOUND IN JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR,LET'S NOT GET
CARRIED AWAY AND FORGET WHO WE ARE.I LOVE THE SAINTS AND ADMIRE WHAT THEY ARE DOING BUT THEY SHOULD NOT BE COMPARED TO JESUS.THAT'S GOING MUCH TOO FAR.

It's all in jest! Brees is leading this team to its best season in franchise history! He is a sort of "savior" for the Saints. Have a little fun and get a shirt! Go to www.breesustees.com and pick one up!

Those shirts are awesome! They are no more sacrilegious than the ones with Jesus as a soccer goalie stating "Jesus Saves" on it. The one I bought says "Real Men Love Breesus" from BreesusTees.com. People do far worse things in life than sporting a t-shirt that claims a football player is godly! Go Saints!

It's all in good fun! He has really become a savior of sorts to the franchise. They are having their best season ever! Take it easy.
