BRPD officer accused of stealing drug money
BATON ROUGE - A five-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department was arrested this afternoon in suspicion of stealing money taken during narcotics investigations.
Department spokesperson Sgt. Don Stone said Officer Michael Thompson, 27, resigned from the force before he was taken into custody this afternoon.
Stone said Thompson, who worked in the narcotics division, admitted to investigators he took around $15,000 seized as part of their investigations, and used the money to fund an addiction to prescription painkillers.
Thompson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail.
