Breaches reported in sinkhole berm
BAYOU CORNE - Assumption Parish officials reported a berm around the western side of the Bayou Corne sinkhole breached in five places during strong storms overnight.
The parish police jury reported two breaches have been repaired, but one small breach and two larger breaches have yet to be repaired. They said the larger breaches were letting water into the sinkhole area.
Emergency officials said Texas Brine indicated repairs would take place once water levels in the area stabilized.
The sinkhole formed in August 2012 and forced people in nearby Bayou Corne to evacuate. Texas Brine recently started the process of buying out property affected by the evacuation.
