BATON ROUGE- A program aimed at curbing violence in Baton Rouge's roughest neighborhood is through it's first week.
BRAVE, also known as Baton Rouge Area Violence Elimination, contains six officers dedicated to bettering the relationship between police and people, in order to change the city's culture of violence.
For now, the team is operating in Mid-City North, also known as 70805. They met with the community in a meeting Thursday night, where people not only offered suggestions but committed to cooperate.
When BRAVE officers find troublemakers, for adults, they're giving them opportunities to work with police in the future. For kids, they're getting them more involved with school, if needed, or with faith-based organizations that can offer them guidance.
Police say, so far, ten ex-criminals have signed up to help start the turn-around.
