BATON ROUGE - Police say a crime fighting program in north Baton Rouge is effective and they hope it will continue to curb violence even more next year.
The Baton Rouge Area Violence Elimination program, or BRAVE, went into affect in June with the goal to lower crime in the city's most dangerous area, the 70805 zip code.
Police say crime is down in the area nearly 20% since the BRAVE program began.
This time last year there were 34 murders in the area, this year 14.
Neighbors say they see a difference, but it's not enough.
"There's a lot of work to be done. It's not going to be done in a year. It may take 5 to 10 years but it'll come back," said Alesia Robertson.
Officials hope to expand the BRAVE program to other Baton Rouge neighborhoods.
