Baton Rouge- Business leaders in the capital city said Baton Rouge has a race problem. "The business community acknowledges a racial divide in our city," said Ann Trappey, chairwoman of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber.

BRAC held a press conference Wednesday in response to the Alton Sterling shooting that took place July 5th. The organization called for two things:

-Awareness of racial disparities by residents

-Reform of government institutions to close the racial gap

Those reforms include community policing, criminal justice and sentencing reform, job opportunities for ex-convicts, work training, and public education initiatives.

BRAC members didn't say the reforms would have prevented Sterling's death. However, they said that creating economic opportunities for poor and minority communities in Baton Rouge would likely reduce crime and confrontations with police.
