Baton Rouge Police have narrowed the search for a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident on I-10.
Evidence indicates 20-year-old Mikel Carson was struck by a 2005-2007 model Ford pickup or Expedition. Detectives say it's possibly a King Ranch Edition truck. The accident happened early Sunday morning in the eastbound lanes near College Drive.
State Police say these types of accidents are often solved by evidence left at the scene. Troopers say parts of a car often have some type of identification number or paint that helps them trace the suspect. They say there is often traces of DNA evidence from the victim on the car.
Troopers say a driver often is cleared of charges when involved in an accident with a pedestrian. They say if someone panics and leaves a scene, they automatically face thousands of dollars in fines and several years in prison.
