BATON ROUGE - A Baton Rouge man wanted for a local slaying is in custody in Sacramento, California after a Jan. 14 drug deal-turned-armed robbery that left one of his relatives dead.
Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L'Jean McKneely says the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, acting Friday on a tip, arrested 40-year-old Marcus Heard at an apartment complex.
McKneely says Heard and two other men allegedly went to rob a man, who was expecting to buy drugs from the trio. The man shot at his attackers. Police say Heard was the only one of the attackers who escaped the scene.
The shooting left Heard's relative, 26-year-old Robert Heard dead. McKneely says he didn't have information available on how the men were related.
