BR firefighter accused of child rape in Tennessee
BATON ROUGE - Authorities announced the arrest of a Baton Rouge firefighter Thursday for charges he raped a child in Tennessee.
Attorney General Buddy Caldwell said members of the Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested Roman Bates, 56, Tuesday in New Orleans. He's a captain with the Baton Rouge Fire Department, and has worked for them since 1990.
Caldwell said Bates is a fugitive from Shelby County, Tenn. for charges of rape of a child, sexual battery, aggravated sexual battery, and aggravated statutory rape.
Bates was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison and is awaiting extradition ton Tennessee, according to the AG's Office. Court records showed Bates has waived extradition proceedings.
