BATON ROUGE- Police are praising dozens in the department for taking two drug suspects off the streets, along with more than $1 million in cocaine.

"Our job is tough, never ending, we're the first ones called and the last ones recognized," said Baton Rouge Police Chief Dewayne White.

But White says his officers need to be noticed for a major drug bust that spanned over four months. White says Brian and Bobby Smith, brothers, are two high level drug dealers locked up in the operation. He says they had an elaborate scheme, hiding drugs in a house on Louise Street, burying cash in the backyard, where two pit bulls stood watch and stashing guns in an abandoned building across the street.

Police say drugs were also found in the tailgate of one of the Smiths' cars.

Authorities caught four others involved in the business, including the Smiths' mother. Police have charged all of them with possession with intent to distribute.

Chief White says this won't be the last bust of its kind.

He said, "That's what it's all about, making these big cases, taking these suppliers and taking them off the market, then if the supply dries up, then because we're proactive and we're actually doing our job, and we have sufficient force to do that, then they'll go elsewhere."

The Smiths were federally indicted for the drugs found in the tailgate and police say this investigation is on-going.
