Baton Rouge is one of four cities chosen to participate in the National League of Cities childhood obesity program.
The league plans this month to set up an 18-month partnership with Baton Rouge to assist in the development of community-wide wellness plans.
In 2009, Louisiana ranked seventh in the nation for children ages 10 through 17 who are overweight or obese.
Mississippi ranked first in that group, followed by Arkansas.
Little Rock and North Little Rock, Ark., and Tupelo, Miss., are the other participating cities.
