BP says it plans to boost its ability to catch oil leaking from the well in the Gulf by early next week. By then, a drilling rig should be set up to capture and burn about 420,000 gallons of oil daily. Once that oil makes it onto a processing ship, it will be sent down a boom and burned at sea.
The drilling rig's capacity would be in addition to the 756,000 gallons of oil already being sucked up through a containment cap sitting on the wellhead.
Company officials say testing of this new process will begin this weekend.
