BP applies for first gulf drilling permit since explosion
BATON ROUGE- BP has applied for its first Gulf of Mexico drilling permit in the Gulf of Mexico since the Deepwater Horizon explosion and spill.
It was filed last week, one week after BP was cited in a federal report for several violations related to the disaster.
Some members of Congress and environmentalists say it is too soon to approve the application, but people in Baton Rouge don't agree.
Many told News 2 it is important for the country to speed up drilling in the Gulf of Mexico to meet energy demands. Others say jobs created by the oil industry should be a focus due to the struggling economy.
