A boy in Baton Rouge offered what he could to help the earthquake victims in Haiti.

Landry Helmke, 6, gave the savings in his piggy bank to the Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge. His Mom says he wanted to get involved after seeing a young girl affected by the earthquake on the news. She says that his generosity inspired others to chip-in.

“When I told people at work, they also donated money,” said Jennifer Sigler, Landry’s mom. “We ended up with $40 more than what was in his piggy bank.”

Organizers with Healing Place Church say they also are in need of over-the-counter medications and medical supplies. You can find a specific list and how to donate here.

The church is accepting donations until Monday at 9 p.m. The donations will then be sent to Florida and then delivered to Haiti.
